The Wharton Media & Entertainment Initiative (WMEI) has been established to serve as the preeminent center for thought leadership and management education in the media and entertainment (M&E) industry.

Through top-tier research, strategic industry partnerships and innovative educational programming, WMEI aims to take a hard, objective look at M&E industry practices, and help executives anticipate (and capitalize upon) significant changes in technology and customer needs.

The Wharton Club of Southern California is proud to showcase WMEI through this powerful group of Wharton Alumni who lead in their respective entertainment industry verticals. These executives will discuss ways they have successfully brought traditional research tools and strategies into the non-traditional entertainment industry.

President, Walt Disney Attractions Japan

Nick Franklin is Senior Vice President, International Development for Walt Disney Parks & Resorts and President, Walt Disney Attractions Japan. In this capacity he is responsible for developing and executing the strategy for growing the segment internationally including developing new products and locations around the globe as well as supporting the existing international locations. Prior to his current role Nick worked for over seven years in Disney's Corporate Strategic Planning department.


Josh Resnick WG '93,
President & co-founder, Pandemic Studios, LLC

Over the past 7 years, Josh and his partner, Andrew Goldman, have built Pandemic into a company of over 200 highly skilled programmers, designers, and artists working on a wide variety of high-profile titles for consoles and PCs at their offices in California and Australia. Josh’s creativity, strong business background and professional approach have formed the foundation for what has become one of the largest and most stable independent developers in America.

Before founding Pandemic, Josh spent four years at Activision, Inc., serving as Producer on the 1995 mega-hit Mechwarrior 2™ and later as Director of Production for the Strategy Division of Activision’s internal studio.


Mark Pearson, WG '99,
SVP, Brand & Franchise Management, 20th Century Fox Television

Mark creates new business opportunities and promotional platforms for the studio's various shows and characters, from "24”" to "Family Guy." He previously worked at Universal Studios as VP of Business Development and Brand Strategy and as VP of Franchise Strategy, developing partnerships with outside companies for Universal’s brands such as the "American Pie," "Curious George" and "King Kong" franchises.

Larry Tanz, WG '99,
CEO, LivePlanet

Larry Tanz joined LivePlanet during the startup phase in late summer 2000. Larry oversees all of LivePlanet's business activities and helps lead the strategy and vision of the company. Over the past year, he has served as Producer on the Emmy-nominated series "Project Greenlight" for Bravo, Executive Producer on the feature film "First Descent" for Universal, Executive Producer on the series "The Entertainer" for E!, and Co-Producer on the feature film "Feast" for Dimension.
