Business Strategies Beyond The Long Tail: The Power of Invisible Crowds

Jack Jia, CEO and founder of Baynote, will discuss the revolutionary online phenomenon coined the "Wisdom of Crowds"

The WCNC would like to thank DLA Piper, for sponsoring this event.

Chris Anderson’s book “The Long Tail” triggered the discussion of profitable business opportunities with sourcing or targeting segments that could not be reached in an economically feasible way in the past. Many market players started to build businesses reaching into the long-tail. This is easier said than done when you have to add significantly more products to sell that are targeted at much narrower target segments. People are simply confused and lost with so many choices of “tail” products. While there is evidence of the power of Long Tail economics, to build a business based on that model requires something outside of the Long Tail.

Jack Jia will discuss the "Wisdom of Invisible Crowds" as the real untapped force for the online revolution. The idea of leveraging the Wisdom of Invisible Crowds allows the user to harness the opinion of many peer-users in a powerful and trusted way.

You will also learn that explicit user feedback (reviews, surveys, blogs) can be bad and even damaging. The age old wisdom of “action speaks louder than words” needs to go online. Emergent behaviors and Wisdom of Invisible Crowds are the foundation the next generation web. The explicit Web 2.0 has so far only built a collection of social networks for the sake of networking. The implicit Web 2.0 is the smarter way to build a real business and it mirrors the real world leading to true performance impact.
