Mentoring Roundtable Luncheon: John Rohal, WG79

Hosted at Fujitsu Computer Systems, Sunnyvale

The Wharton Club of Northern California is pleased to announce the third event in a new series: The Mentoring Roundtable with John Rohal, WG79, former Chairman of EGM Capital, and former Global Research Director of Robertson Stephens.

Very senior Wharton alumni often have a wealth of knowledge and wisdom that they have picked up through experience over the course of their careers, particularly as it relates to managing a career. Being able to tap into that experience and wisdom is invaluable and can have a career-altering impact.

Join us on Tuesday, November 22nd for a Mentoring Roundtable Luncheon with John Rohal, WG79, former Chairman of EGM Capital, and former Global Research Director of Robertson Stephens.

(In the Mentoring Roundtables--which will generally occur over lunch--the WCNC will host small groups of six to eight current Club members and one senior executive, generally a Wharton alumnus or alumna. This more intimate setting will offer Club members the opportunity to meet and have one-to-one, substantive career management discussions with senior business people who are usually only available in lecture format. We will be attracting a number of different speakers with diverse industry experience.)

Date. Tuesday, November 22nd, 2005
Time. 11:20 - 11:30am. Check-in
11:30am - 1:00pm. Roundtable discussion
Place. Fujitsu Computer Systems Corporation, 1250 East Arques Ave. Sunnyvale, CA

Due to the small attendance format of this roundtable, it is expected to fill up quickly. If you would like to attend, please register now. If the event is full already, put yourself on the wait list--there is a very good chance that at least the first few people on the wait list will be able to join the roundtable.

Details
- Participation is limited to current Wharton Club members.
- Due to the small attendance nature of the event and our desire to "spread the wealth" around as much as possible, each Club member will be eligible initially to attend only one luncheon a year.
- Sign-ups will be on a first-come, first-served basis. We will announce new speakers and dates in advance, as well as the date and time the sign-up will open. Be sure to keep your membership current and check your e-mail on a regular basis for announcements about these events.

Making the transition from a career in high technology to a career in finance can be difficult, especially in our tech-saturated talent environment. What specific skills, networking, and strategies can you employ to make a successful transition to finance? What is the key to becoming a decision-making member of the finance team, rather than the "tech expert" hired to consult for one-off projects? Perhaps you are in technology and would like to better understand the interaction between tech and finance for your current company or future entrepreneurial ventures?

John Rohal (WG79) brings a wealth of experience to bear on this topic, having started his career with fourteen years in the technology industry in a variety of sales, marketing, and planning executive positions, then making a successful transition to the world of investment banking and hedge funds. John's financial background includes successful careers at Alex Brown & Sons (MD and Co-Head of the Technology Research Group), Robertson Stephens (Global Research Director), and EGM Capital (Chairman, MD, and Chairman of the Portfolio Strategy Committee). John is also a member of the WCNC's Board of Directors.
