About this session:
The Rise of MOOCs and the Threat and Opportunity in Business Education
Higher education hardly changed at all since Socrates, and then everything changed in 2011 when 160,000 students enrolled in an online course in computer science at Stanford. Massively Open Online Courses (MOOCs) were suddenly in the news. Wharton jumped on the emerging opportunity and in less than a year enrolled more than a million students in a handful of courses, none of whom paid anything nor received course credit. Is the MOOC a passing fad, a new category, or will it fundamentally alter the landscape of education generally, and elite business education specifically?
